6 Immigration Changes That May Occur Under Trump’s Presidency

Written by on with 0 comment

President-elect Donald Tump has alluded to the following immigration changes (note that exactly what will be done is not yet known):

  1. Reducing the number of H1-B speciality occupation visas (for foreign workers to work in the US)
  2. Possibly withdrawing from NAFTA (North America Free Trade Agreement). NAFTA allows Mexican and Canadian nationals to work in the US.
  3. Increase the number of Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents
  4. Nominating Justices of the Supreme Court who are less sympathetic to immigration issues generally
  5. More rigorous background checks and/or other hurdles for lawful non-immigrants and/or immigrants coming from predominantly Muslim nations
  6. Developing more robust biometric technology to increase screening at airports and other ports.
